About the role The Deputy Registrar is appointed under s85(2) of the Coroners Act and employed under the Public Sector Act 2022 on conditions equivalent to a senior officer in the public service. Registrars operate under a delegation from the State Coroner. Under that delegation, registrars may investigate apparent natural cause deaths and other reportable deaths as required by the Coroners Act. This includes investigating fall and health care related deaths in hospitals, the community and Residential Aged Care Facilities. Registrars manage queries from medical practitioners seeking advice about whether a death is reportable; authorise the issue of cause of death certificates for reportable deaths; and may make findings in respect of natural causes deaths and other reportable deaths where directed by the State Coroner.
